Management Of Psoriasis With Nimbidin

Psoriasis is a common, chronic, occasionally acute inflammatory disease of the skin characterized by well defined erythematous plaques of varying size. Extensive research studies are going on to ascertain whether psoriasis is an autoimmune disease, and that many of the modern medicines available at present have immune suppressive action. Clinical research studies were conducted at Regional Research Institute (DR) Trivandrum. A number of preparations/formulations have been studied.

Clinical trial

A combination of internal administration of Nimbidin, an isolate from Neem seed oil and Lajjalukeram, as external applications have been taken for trial.

Drug administration

1.  Nimbidin 200 mg. capsules twice daily for 60 days
2.  Lajjalukera (external application) q.s. for 60 days

Conclusion

Clinical trial has been conducted on 362 patients and about 60% of the patients have shown good control as evidenced by the relief of the signs and symptoms of the disease and no repulse was noticed.

Abstract: Psoriasis is a common skin disease affecting about 1-2% of general population. The word psoriasis is derived from the Greek word “Psora” and “Iasis”. Psora means Itch or scale and lasis means condition. Acharya Charak has described the involvement of Vata and Kapha in Ekkushtha.
