Management Of Hypertension With Ayurvedic Formulations
Vyanabala Vaishmya or Hypertension is not described as such in classical Ayurvedic literature. Some Ayurvedic scholars call it Rakta-gata-Vata. According to a WHO Expert Committee on Hypertension control which met in Geneva (1994), it is the commonest cardiovascular disorders, posing a major public health challenge to society. It is one of the major risk factors for cardiovascular mortality, which accounts for 20-50% of all deaths. The control of hypertension requires its diagnosis and management with pharmacological and non- pharmacological methods of treatment.
Clinical studies
The Council has taken up clinical investigations on a large sample with following drug formulations :-
- Ushiradi churna 3-6 gm twice daily for six weeks.
- Tagaradi churna 3-6 gm twice daily for six weeks.
The study has been conducted on 964 patients in two groups. The diagnosis has been done on the basis of WHO criteria and investigations were conducted to exclude hypertension due to organic lesions.
Conclusion
The observations indicated control in most of the patients (above 65-75%) in both groups of patients.
